Street Photography, The Cars of Cuba
Although the people of Cuba make the country a vibrant and culturally interesting place, it’s also the rich automotive history that often creates a unique setting; street photography, where the vehicles become the subject rather than people. Some fine examples of classic automotive history can be found rumbling along any given street or highway throughout the country. Some of these vehicles are well cared for, pristine examples while others are barely hanging on to their rusted out frames chugging along the streets held together with parts from multiple sources. A 1950’s Benz with a 1980 Mercedes engine, Lada gearbox and Mitsubishi transmission? In Cuba, it can be done! The resourcefulness of their owners will likely have these vehicles on the roads for many years to come.
My husband would love this. The cars are the main reason he wants to go to Cuba. You totally capture that unique aspect of that country. Maybe one day the US will finally lift the travel ban…
Thanks!
Cuba is definitely a car lovers paradise! It really feels like you’ve stepped back in time.
The travel restrictions are slowly easing, so maybe in the future it will be possible for everyone to enter.
Great post. Lots of interesting/strange looking cars :)
What makes me sad is thinking about the future … when the present regime implodes and the developers move in with high-rise hotels and you have all the trappings of excess and gaudy new money. If you’re going to Cuba, go soon. Raul Castro won’t last forever.
