Winnipeg in Black and White
Winnipeg has been home for 10 years now and I have come to enjoy this city for what it offers. It’s certainly a unique place to live with quite a lot of interesting areas, people and culture.
Although my goal is to keep this website focussed on street photography / street portraiture, I will from time to time veer off of that path. I suppose architecture compliments street photography rather well. These are the streets and structures that frame many of my other images.
The following photos are part of a larger set of 24 that I recently produced, had printed at large format and framed. They are meant to showcase some of Winnipeg’s historic and iconic buildings – mostly found within the downtown and historic Exchange District.
Have a fantastic Thursday!
Wow shots!
Thanks! :)
These are really beautifully composed, I think. Some great skies that add movement that somehow counters the perspective perfectly.
Thank you! I always attempted to shoot on days that had an interesting sky. It can definitely help enhance a photo like this.
TOTALLY AWESOME! I LOVE LOVE LOVE those old buildings! Great architecture.
Thank you Rob! Winnipeg certainly has its charm. Glad you like the series :)
So many layers in your photos – movement, structure, shadowing – so fun to look at.
The photo with the two cars could have been in Cuba instead of Winnepeg – cool!
Every time I look at that photo with the cars I think of Cuba! I didn’t have my camera when I first noticed that scene and had to run back home to get my camera and return. Luckily, they were still there :)
I hate those awesome potential pic moments when I realize I don’t have my camera / phone. Glad you ran back!
Nice series. I think you might have had architectural shots like these here before your restructure.
Thanks. Always appreciated! I had posted some before but really wasn’t keeping up with my blog at that time. I think with the focus of this site being a few things instead of dozens, it seemed appropriate to show these.
Beautiful series of images Mike :D
Thanks a bunch, Joe! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Mike these are STUNNING!!!!! What kind of camera are you using and when did you switch over to photography?? I think you may have found a calling! Also, are you selling any of these prints? I would love to get one!!!
Hey Deryn! Thanks for stopping by the site :)
I’ve been doing photography – mostly as a hobby – for a few years now. Definitely prints are available if you’re interested. Just shoot me an email or FB message if you would like to discuss a particular photo.
As for the camera, these were all shot with a Canon 5D Mark II.
Cheers, Mike.
Awesome and stunning work yet again Mike!
Thank you Nicole!
Incredible! Your work makes me forget about the relatively harsh winter in Winnipeg, and it tickles my curiosity and makes me want to know the city more!
Thanks Cathy :) I know I complain sometimes about living here but it really does have some nice character and the history is interesting. I suppose I’ve become more relaxed and tend not to worry about the negatives!
Good work, Mike. Love the B&W!
Much appreciated, António!
Amazing photos.
Thank you!
Really nice series, especially the old cars.tones are great.
