Winnipeg Street: Georgina
Sometimes a persons story is written on their face, or in their eyes. She didn’t want to talk too much and was a bit unsure about getting her photo taken, though she did allow me to take just one. I’ve seen her before, and although she did not want to share her story with me in depth, I get the feeling that her life hasn’t always been happy. Not every portrait is easy to take but having the opportunity to do so makes this project and this type of photography all the more important to me. It’s not just about taking pictures of people.
Mike, something tells me it’s not just their image you are capturing but their spirit. Some are broken some are mended and all are beautiful.
Thank you Allison. I’m hopeful that I’m photographing not only a person, but something of their character as well.
The silver tongued devil strikes once more!
Powerful image Mike
Thank you Bob. Have a great day :)
Great street portrait Mike 😃
Thank you Joe. Always appreciated!
A portrait like this (and the one in the previous post), one shot is all you need.
Thank you! I agree. I seldom take more than one – it usually makes the person more comfortable if I’m actually interested in talking to them instead of continually taking photo after photo. If the image turns out well, great. If not, at least I had a positive encounter.
Thats a very special photo Mike.
Thank you Gavin. This one definitely remains one of my most memorable.
You captured her essence Mike. A portrait worth a million words. Your work and they way you get to know your subject before you photograph them reminds me of HONY – Humans of New York. Are you familiar with him? You can find him on Face Book and I’m sure any place on the internet as he now has books published. Best, Robyn
Thank you Robyn. Taking time to talk to and if possible get to know a little something about each person is important to me. I only recently heard of the Humans of New York project. It’s nice to see others doing similar things and also being recognized for the effort.
The tracks of my tears
A beautiful and powerfully striking image. Really great!
“It’s not just about taking pictures of people.” Very well “spoken” Mike.
I know exactly what you mean. And so true about stories in peoples faces.
I’ve always been that person who have watched peoples faces and their expressions… it’s fascinating.
I had a project for some years in a church where I was photographing the church members… and it’s not that easy. You always have to be aware, you have to learn reading peoples faces and have a great respect for them. And YOU do have respect, I can see that just by looking at your portraits.
