A Journey To: Wat Si Chum
Continuing on with the tour of Sukhothai Historical Park, we find ourselves slightly outside the main park at a temple known as Wat Si Chum – The Temple of the Bodhi Tree. This 13th century temple is one of the most significant in Thailand and is of great importance to the historical landscape. When you first see the temple you are struck with an imposing image of the mandapa which houses the 15 meter tall seated Buddha, known as the Phra Achana – the one who is not frightened, the largest in Sukhothai. Being an avid history enthusiast, this site was phenomenal.
When were you lucky enough to go to Sukhothai? Those pictures are incredible. The one with the monks could / should be huge, in a frame, hanging in a room and demanding attention!
Thanks! This was back in late 2011. Wonderful place and if you have a chance of visiting, go for it! I’m planning to head back there again and do some more exploration :) I’ve often thought about printing that photo as it’s one of my favorite travel shots.
I would absolutely buy one!
The monks photographing the Buddha is so candid and wonderful! I particularly enjoy the b&w of the woman touching the statue…it is very emotional. Beautiful set!
Thank you! It was really good timing that they came when they did. It was very quiet that day with only a few people cleaning the grounds.
This is another great series of shots Mike :D
Much appreciated Joe! Have a great day.
Love that photo of the Monks in the doorway . Funny because at first glance I thought the one nearest us had his arms raised in prayer but actually he’s another photographer :)
