A Journey To: Rural Manitoba
As some of you might already know, I not only enjoy street photography / portraiture, but a variety of photographic subjects as well. This includes rural decay. I classify rural decay as old rustic scenes with centuries old barns, homesteads, rusted out vehicles, farm equipment and other sites you might find dotting the prairies and woods of rural Manitoba. I took these photos recently on an Easter road trip to visit my parents. It was another great opportunity to explore the countryside and dart down some back roads or, as is often the case, park the car and walk into a specific location.
Another website will soon be going live which will showcase these types of images as well as my other photographic pursuits.
Have a great week!
Those fields are hiding a lot of treasures. Great shot Mike.
They are indeed :) I have a few other places I need to check out the next time I visit.
Rural Decay …love it.
Thanks! :)
Great images Mike, this is my kind of place. Can’t wait to see the other site :) Have a great evening.
I thought you would like images like this, Joe :) I really love exploring these places and could spend hours out there wandering about in search of new finds! Cheers.
Really wonderful evocative images. SO wish I was there.
Thanks Donald! It’s really quite relaxing and interesting wandering around these parts of rural history. I often imagine who had lived in these places and what happened to them.
Awesome finds, captures, and angles!
Thank you Robyn! As much as I enjoy living in the city, it’s always great heading out into the countryside to see what can be found :)
I think we are alike in this case, the variety of photographic subjects… I photograph just about everything too.
Beautiful images from your trip, Mike.
I also look forward to see your other website.
Have a great day!
I think it is good to have many different points of inspiration. If I stayed only with street photography, I would have nothing to fall back on when I lose motivation. There are just too many interesting subject out there :) I’ll post the link when it’s ready to go. Always appreciate your words, Malin!
i love Usa , mood
Well, we’re very close to the USA, but still a couple hours away :)
Whoa … the novel one wants to write when seeing that, or a short story at least. Mike, it looks precisely like the opening shorts of a good film. I have to say, I am learning more about Canada from you and your blog than ever I learned from those requisite school field trips … you know, where you fall down a stair or two in old Quebec, and one of the teachers whose been chugging battery acid barked at me to get up. In my inimitable way I said, “Ms. X, it’s difficult to see what you’re point at AND walk down slippery steps.” I was sent back to the hotel, where I spent a super day being taught poker by the young barman before he went on duty. Anyway … you’re shown me a marvelous glimpse of a marvelous country. You can all come home now, you know. We really didn’t mean to scare the loyalists off !
Awesome comment, Mark! :) Trust me, you could definitely get some great writing inspiration by visiting rural Canada. So many old structures, cars, and scenes that are just begging for some narrative!
It sounds amazing!
Hi Mike- Great shots… the more decay, the better! Agree about diversification as it keeps the creative juices flowing. Love your work and look forward to seeing your new site.
Thank you so much, Jane! I do love these old things. I’m really happy my family lives in these parts of Canada, allowing me to get some exploring in during the visits :)
Rural decay, how original :) Luv the second one! And a new website… Too cool ;) xox
These old places really speak to me. I often create stories and imagine what must have gone on all those years ago. Thanks, always :)
These are the reasons I would love to walkabout your wonderful country.
Land is at a premium here so you’d not find this, great shots.
If you get the chance, definitely come for a visit! It is really great to just jump in the car and drive for many hours down old back roads, visiting 100 year old farms and abandoned homes, cars, barns, etc. It’s a nice break from the city and street photography!
Sexy Shots!
Now I see I have to visit Manitoba! I love what you call rural decay. Is that a descriptive name you came up with yourself? I was wondering what to call my particular interest in subject matter. I would like to use it to describe most of my work!
