Winnipeg Street: Conrad
Did a quick after work photo walk today, trying to get at least a few minutes on the street before the weather turned bad. Noticed these two chatting on the sidewalk and made my way over, and quickly took the first photo. I liked how he was pointing to something. His friend Vincent was there also and I grabbed a shot of him as well. Couple of cheerful guys who were nothing but smiles and enjoyable to talk to. Conrad mentioned his nickname was “Cheech” from “Cheech and Chong” and Vincent chimed in saying his was “Chip-in”. When I asked what that meant he said because he’s always lending change to his buddies.
Just excellent!
Hope you are okay Mike?
Bob
Thank you Bob! I’ve been doing great; just busy! Looking forward to a holiday!
Glad to hear you are well! A holiday sounds just the ticket my friend
Take care
Bob
You’ve captured their expression in a very humble way, Mike.
I want to share this quote with you (something similar to what I wrote to you before about your photography):
“If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.” (Eve Arnold)
Thank you so much, Malin!
Awesome quote – and very true! It is a perspective that I often try to adhere to.
Another fine example of how well you capture the essence of your subjects Mike!
Thank you Robyn! It is very encouraging for me to read this comment :)
Great images Mike :) Have a great day.
Much appreciated Joe!!
Very nice.
Thank you my friend!
My dear Mike, peace signs and cigarettes?!! I’m sooo digging the vibe in these shots!! Their expressions and the colors are just super energizing. Dare I say you have a gift – one so fabulous that you can capture the electricity of life even when it is hoodie-cloaked? You see things guy, and you make them jam.
Love it!! Got a light? ;)
Peace always ~ Allison
Always love your words, Allison! :) I know I’ve mentioned this before, but you definitely make my day with the positive vibes you send my way!
These guys have pretty tough lives and they probably have a rough go at day to day interactions with people – as most likely look down at them. For me, they were really great to talk to :)
Great photos Mike! I really like the first one too! Aside from his expression, the graffiti really add more character to the picture
I thought so as well; as a fan of graffiti, it adds something to the image. Cheers, Dalia! :)
Damn, these brothas look like they in ruff shape! haha. Good pictures though ;).
They definitely haven’t had ideal lives up until this point. Really nice though after you talk with them for a while and get to know their situations. Cheers, Rob!
Oh damn! Just noticed the Calgary Flames hoodie! haha. GO FLAMES ;).
LOL….yes, a Flames fan! Most wear the Winnipeg Jet’s gear proudly ;)
Excellent shots of these fellows, and good commentary. I know them both well, and you have beautifully represented their tough lives. Indeed, both are incredibly positive in light of the challenges they daily face just to survive!
Thank you Doug! I notice this a lot with many folks on the streets of Winnipeg. A lot of pain but after talking you can start to see their kindness.
