Winnipeg Street: Alfie
I don’t have a story to offer with these portraits; I just noticed him taking a smoke break and decided to start shooting. He was really down to earth and didn’t hesitate or question why I was taking his photos. Great guy. I had to run though, so it was a pretty quick set! Before we parted ways, he was interested in having the photos so I gave him a card which has my email address on it.
Interesting shots, Mike… though not exactly bedroom eyes. Well, at least to me.
Sometimes it’s fun to catch people a bit off guard. As long as they don’t punch me in the face :) Cheers, Eric!
He has kind eyes Mike. Beautiful photos.
Diana xo
Thank you Diana! I just couldn’t resist taking his photo. I think if I had the chance to talk more he would have revealed some interesting stories, perhaps :)
What a brilliant character and an amazingly kind face! Well done buddy
Great series Mike but the 1st shot is priceless. For me it’s a photo that will stand the test of time, it is timeless. This image is going to stick in my mind the rest of the evening.
Awesome comment, Mark! It’s certainly an expression that made me smile. When I showed Alfie the image he let out a good laugh and seemed to like it as well. Cheers.
Echoing Mark’s comment here: the first shot is “priceless”. Just a wonderful image all around.
Thank you Earl!
This is so good!!!
Thank you Rob!!
Now that’s a portrait! They are all terrific but the first one really grabbed me. The smoke makes it.
Thank you Jane! That one is my favourite too :)
Great, Mike! So much personality captured in these photos. I especially like the first. Thanks for sharing.
Much appreciated Fred!
Fantastic series, Mike!
The first one is my favourite! Great work as usual!
Thank you always, Malin!!
The story is inside his eyes. Great, Mike!
Thank you Eduardo! I think that is true. As Doug points out below, Alfie has had some hardships in his life which I feel come through.
Thanks for this post Mike. You have done a good job in capturing Alfie and his various states of mind. I have known him for at least 4 years. He has been storing his stuff at our place since being homeless the last few months. He was given given a huge break, furnished home, classes, etc., but lost it all. His demons often get the better of him.
Thank you Doug! Also, I appreciate the additional information about Alfie. It is often the case with many people who’ve been homeless. The opportunities do arise, but there are sometimes roadblocks or as you say, demons, that enter the scene. Hopefully he can get his life back together.
A fabulous set with a stunner in the first portrait, it’s all there in the longing of Alfie’s eyes.
For some reason these made me giggle. He seems like a bit of a character. Nicely done!
He has a Charlie Manson thing going on.
Great images! The first one is an eye-catcher, in every sense of the word! I understand why you would’ve liked to stay a bit longer and talk. He seems like an interesting man.
What Mark Kertesz said above I wholeheartedly agree with. The images are fantastic and those color head shots really show character. But that first black and white shot is the keeper for me!
Strikingly honest photo’s. I bet this guys had some hard times. I wonder what his aspirations were as a younger man?
