A Fascination With Old Doors!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a fascination with old doors (hey, we all have our things!). Especially the ones that are a bit worn, weathered and in need of a fresh coat of paint. They have character and can quite often tell a story. I like to imagine who has passed over the threshold and how many families have lived within the rooms beyond. Below are a few entryways that interested me from my recent trip to China. A study in pattern and texture.
There is depth in character. And so often character, however it presents, gets overlooked. I particularly like the first shot. Great choices to photograph, Mike.
Thank you Eric! I did note while I was taking pictures everyday, very few of those with cameras walking by actually stopped to admire the details. For me, the beauty can often be found in the details.
Yes, we all have our things, Mike. :)
I have some of them too…
Really nice images!

Indeed :) Thank you Malin!
Also, thanks for the link; some interesting reading.
I have also been shooting a lot of old doors. I have been building up a collection of them.
Much appreciated, Rajiv! When you’re ready to share, I’d love to see your photos. Cheers.
Great set of images Mike. I absolutely love the first one. The texture is amazing! And your composition thought provoking. Love it!
Thank you Robyn! That one is also my favourite :) Somewhat abstract.
I have a photographer friend in Seattle who is also fascinated by doors. But when I went to visit his gallery, the photo exhibition was one of naked women … I was one week off. I was mortified, but tried to behave normally. The photographer (not my friend) said, “Which do you like best.” Okie dokie. I chose the least revealing one … I mean revealing downstairs … and said that one has a certain appeal. He agreed. Oy! Doors. Oh yes, doors are no problem … neither are naked women photos generally, it just depends on what one’s focusing on!
lol…that’s a great comment, Mark! It can be an interesting experience when we’re thrown off guard like that; especially when expecting something else entirely!
Those are beautiful doors Mike! One of my favourite uses of old doors is when folks turn them into desks or tables.
Diana xo
That is an excellent use of the old ones. You would probably love some of the old abandoned farmhouses around here that dot the landscape. Many good examples to be found :)
Thank you Diana!
I do love old farm houses!
Excellent, Mike! I love old doors, too…actually I like everything that looks a bit worn, but I don’t like to touch everything… :)
amazing collection!!
