Winnipeg Street: Floyd + Monochromia
This encounter was especially interesting as Floyd used to live in a town where I also lived for many years. Although I hadn’t seen Floyd for over a decade, I instantly recognized him, sat down and started chatting. Back then, I didn’t know anything about him other than his Apache name, Silverfox. Floyd and I talked for over an hour and he offered many interesting stories and dispelled some of the rumours that have been spread regarding his life. He spends a great deal of his time walking and has visited most of the prairie provinces, British Columbia and Ontario. It was great to finally sit down and talk to Floyd and get to know him beyond what people have told me in the past.
I have also become a contributor over at Monochromia – an excellent new photoblog dedicated solely to black and white photography! If you are interested in checking out some excellent B&W images, please visit the site MONOCHROMIA
Great serie photographs! I love black and white.
Thank you very much! :)
I have nothing more to say than BRAVO!
And a good looking man too…
Much appreciated Malin! :) He does have a pretty cool appearance!
Great photos Mike. I love black and white photos of people; I think it allows their character and personality to show through.
Diana xo
Thank you Diana!! I absolutely agree with you. With colour, we’re almost getting too much information – perhaps about the environment/surrounds, and less about the person. I suppose it depends, but for these shots, I figured B&W was ideal :)
STELLAR. I love that you took B&W photos of someone but got into the ‘gray’ of his story. So many times we judge or believe rumors. But people are complex beings and you so gently portray that with the reality of a person’s look and life. We are blessed to have your work, Mike.
I’ll definitely check out MONOCHROMIA – I dig the B&W very much.
Wishing you peace, always and always. :)
Thank you Allison!! :) I love this comment, especially “you took B&W photos of someone but got into the ‘gray’ of his story”. Beautifully written.
Having the ability to live with peace and try to extend that feeling to others is the only way to go!
Another interesting being. Goes to show how small our world can be and in this case, is. Glad you had an oportunity to reconnect with him, Mike and learn some truths. Floyd presents genuinely in your B&W shots!
Goodness gracious… You have a way of capturing expressions perfectly.
